Food From Month 01 - Let's talk about this.

OK, time to get some food talk going. I want to know how NH made that cream-cheese filled pastry mouthgasm she brought to the second meeting on Sunday.

Month One: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

So, our first month is over, and we are on to month two. The first book read is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. Generally it seems we all enjoyed reading this book, but were a little disappointed. The literary ideas are bold, but seem to fall short. I won't go into details with this post, but would like to make this a place holder for comments below from the rest of the Booklyn group and whomever else.

Some pretty cool tees that go with our general book loving theme.

Club Launch a Success!!

The first meeting of Booklyn was a success! The 6 person group met over beef bourgognone, gratin dauphinoise and wine to discuss the club rules and regulations.

Rules:

1. All members must live in Brooklyn.

2. The group will meet every month (preferably on a Sunday) at a designated member's house for dinner and profound discussions.

3. Each month one person is in charge and will host. At the previous months meeting they will come with three books they suggest the club should read (no limitations on genre, only size-- must be of a reasonable length), the club will then vote and choose a book for that month.

4. Dinners will be potluck style. Food may be thematically linked to the book being read for that meeting at the group's discretion.

5. Members should be prepared for discussions, but need not read outside literature to aid in discussion (unless they so desire).

6. Consumption of wine is encouraged.

6. The group may eventually sponsor other social activities or events (eg organize a 5K. . .)

Suggested Books for the First Month:

1. A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggers)
2. Tropic of Cancer (Henry Miller)
3. The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao (Junot Diaz)
4. Netherland (Joseph Oneil)
5. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Jonathan Saffran Foer)

Chosen Book: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Next Meeting: February 7, 2009

Dinner Theme: The Five Boroughs- each member will bring a dish linked to one of the boroughs.

Happy Reading Everyone!
